Heat index climbs past 105 for Florida’s Gulf Coast as scattered storms target inland areas<\/p>\n

It’s going to be another hot afternoon, with most of the cooling rain and thunderstorm activity focused on our deep inland areas. <\/p>\n

Your Gulf Coast Weather Most Accurate Forecast has peak heat index values pushing over 105 degrees for much of the Gulf Coast this afternoon, so be careful as you venture out into the heat, and be sure to stay hydrated! <\/p>\n

Storms will begin to develop as the sea breeze builds in off of the Gulf during the early afternoon hours. While spotty storms will initially develop close to the US-41 and I-75 corridors, look for the rain to spread eastward, with scattered to widespread storms for our deep inland areas during the late afternoon and evening. While severe storms aren’t expected a few will be strong, with torrential rain, gusty winds and frequent lightning. <\/p>\n

The heat, and the scattered afternoon storms, will stick in the forecast through the end of the week and weekend. With high temperatures pushing into the middle 90s, weekend heat index values will push toward 110 degrees each afternoon before any storms begin.<\/p>\n

In the tropics, the Atlantic remains quit, with no development expected over the next seven days. Dense plumes of Saharan dust are helping to suppress activity across the Atlantic basin. Some of that dust will work into our skies this weekend, so you may notice the sky looking a little more hazy, and the sunsets looking a little more colorful. <\/p>\n
