We love a good sci-fi president<\/a> even in happy times, but there\u2019s something extra comforting about seeing a POTUS hold his own in fantastical situations when current events are pelting us with real-world jump scares. That\u2019s why it\u2019s especially fun to see the first full trailer for President Curtis<\/a>, Adult Swim\u2019s Rick and Morty spin-off<\/a> starring the legendary Keith David as the velvet-voiced commander-in-chief.<\/p>\n

On Rick and Morty he\u2019s often a bit of a bumbler, but here, without Rick around to bicker with, he seems to be asserting proper authority alongside his assistants, played by Stephanie Beatriz (Twisted Metal) and Jim Rash (Community).<\/p>\n

President Curtis was announced during the Rick and Morty panel<\/a> at last year\u2019s San Diego Comic-Con; at the time, cult-beloved actor David said he was thrilled to expand the character beyond the Adult Swim hit. \u201cPresident Curtis has always been a blast to play,\u201d he said in a press release. \u201cGetting to explore his world more deeply in this new series is a dream. I can\u2019t wait for fans to see what kind of chaos he stirs up when Rick isn\u2019t around to steal the spotlight.\u201d<\/p>\n

President Curtis will take advantage of its Rick and Morty link for scheduling purposes; the first episode will arrive July 26 at 11:30 p.m. ET and PT on Adult Swim, immediately following Rick and Morty\u2018s season nine finale. You\u2019ll be able to stream President Curtis episodes the following day on HBO Max.<\/p>\n

The official description tells us \u201cthe series follows President Andre Curtis (David) and his eccentric staff as they tackle the kinds of crises that Rick Sanchez could never be bothered with\u2014from interdimensional diplomacy to paranormal investigations and unexplained phenomena.\u201d<\/p>\n

President Curtis is set within the Rick and Morty universe (no word yet whether any familiar faces will pop up, but we can dare to hope), and is executive produced by Dan Harmon, James Siciliano, Danielle Uhlarik, Monica Mitchell, and Steve Levy.<\/p>\n
