Olivia Wilde will not be silenced again after the media storm surrounding \u201cDon\u2019t Worry Darling.\u201d The actor-director dispelled rumors that she and Florence Pugh had a screaming match on set in an interview published Wednesday. <\/p>\n

Speaking with The Cut<\/a>, \u201cThe Invite\u201d director said she wanted to pursue her press tour differently for her third feature film, taking control of the narrative after feeling misunderstood during the \u201cDon\u2019t Worry Darling\u201d rollout.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was told, \u2018Don\u2019t say a f\u2013king word. Just go out there and smile,\u2019\u201d Wilde recalled. \u201cI resent that, but it taught me it\u2019s not the way I want to handle things.\u201d<\/p>\n

After its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, \u201cDon\u2019t Worry Darling\u201d faced heightened scrutiny, especially after Wilde\u2019s relationship with the film\u2019s star Harry Styles became public. There was also speculation about Wilde\u2019s professionalism on set.<\/p>\n

Reports ahead of the film\u2019s release said that Pugh had become \u201cfed up with the director\u2019s frequent unexplained absences\u201d and that the two women had a blowout argument late into production on the film. Wilde denied all of those allegations Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u202fhave never had a screaming match on my set. I was never not available on set,\u201d she said. \u201cI wanted to be like, \u2018None of this is true.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Pugh allegedly made contact with the film\u2019s distributor New Line Cinema to ensure that she would not have to \u201cparticipate in the film\u2019s life cycle in any way.\u201d Several members of Wilde\u2019s crew came to her defense during that time, denying that the incident took place and praising the director for her dedication to the project. <\/p>\n

\u201cI deeply hate the feeling of being misunderstood,\u201d Wilde told The Cut.<\/p>\n

The director went on to clarify that in her early career, she felt put in a box as audience\u2019s \u201cobject of desire.\u201d Post-\u201cDon\u2019t Worry Darling\u201d and entering her 40s, she felt an immense shift.<\/p>\n

\u201cI became the full-on villain. Like Cruella,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

Wilde also recently addressed her intentional break from the public eye with Alex Cooper on \u201cCall Her Daddy.\u201d<\/a> She described that time as the most disconnected she has ever felt from her public perception and reality.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was also very strange to see complete fiction traded as fact,\u201d Wilde said. \u201cI wanted to be like, \u2018Can I just talk to people?\u2019 Can I just go and say like, \u2018That\u2019s not true?\u2019 And it was like, \u2018No, that won\u2019t help.\u2019 And that was really hard.\u201d<\/p>\n
