Last summer, Jessica Sanchez<\/a> took home the grand prize on America’s Got Talent<\/a> because of her amazing voice, her dedication, and her heart-warming story: Sanchez had competed on the very first season of the show as a child, then returned for Season 20 as an expectant mother. Now, during Night 4 of Auditions for Season 21, we’ve got another full-circle singer: Mackenzie Sol.<\/p>\n

Hailing from the North of England, Sol is a 25-year-old with a deeply emotional vocal delivery and his own history with one of the Judges. When he was just 4 years old, he auditioned for Judge Simon Cowell<\/a> on The X Factor. Since the age minimum for the show at that time was 16, he didn’t make it, but the now-adult Sol recalled backstage at AGT, “that moment in that room is when I knew I wanted to be a singer.”<\/p>\n

Now, 21 years later, Sol is back in front of Cowell, as well as Judges Mel B<\/a>, Howie Mandel<\/a> and Sof\u00eda Vergara<\/a>, for another shot. “I\u2019ve never had nerves like this,” he admitted before taking the stage. “I\u2019ve got my mum and my whole family here\u2026hopefully I won\u2019t make a fool of myself.”<\/p>\n

“I don\u2019t know why I took 21 years. I did a lot of singing back home, it\u2019s just really hard to make it where I come from in such a small town. I don\u2019t know if he\u2019s gonna remember me. I really hope he does,” Sol added.<\/p>\n

After reminding Cowell where they’d met before, prompting the hilarious question by Cowell of “what happened?” (“I was 4.”), Sol sang “back to friends” by Sombr, bringing the audience to its feet and his family to tears. “I think you are absolutely, extraordinarily fabulous. And I\u2019m glad I got to speak first because I\u2019m gonna do this,” said Mel B, reaching forward to press the Golden Buzzer as Sol gasped an audible, “No way!”<\/p>\n

Before Mackenzie was on AGT, he tried out for American Idol<\/p>\n

Small town or not, Sol has been hustling, racking up over 12 million followers on TikTok and making the most of opportunities like reality singing competition American Idol, which he auditioned for in 2024, when he was just 18. For his initial audition, he chose Sam Cooke’s “Bring It On Home To Me,” and got a unanimous “Yes” vote from the three-person judging panel.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After traveling to Hollywood for the next round, he sang “Changes” by Black Sabbath, and again won the judges’ favor. His rendition of “With A Little Help From My Friends” was deemed good, but not great, so he was called up for a sing-off against another contestant, and luckily, he delivered a performance of Labrinth’s “Jealous” that kept him in the competition.<\/p>\n

Things were getting tight, though, with only 24 singers left as the show moved everyone to Hawaii and opened up voting to the public. Sol again sang a song called “Jealous,” though this time it was the banger by Nick Jonas, and it was enough to keep him in the Top 20 of competition, but the next week, his performance of “I’ll Never Love Again” from A Star Is Born didn’t get him enough votes to stay out of the danger zone; it was up to the judges which of the low-vote-getters to save. His final performance on the show was “False Alarms” by Lawrence, and it didn’t impress.<\/p>\n

Will the same thing happen on AGT? Thanks to the Golden Buzzer, he’s guaranteed a place in the Live Shows, where voting is open to the public, and his online fans may mobilize to help him! Mackenzie also has fans within the AGT community. Patrox, a dancer who auditioned the same night he did, wrote on an Instagram post<\/a> of Sol’s performance, “I met this guy his voice is from an angel \ud83d\ude0d\ud83e\udd29 miss you bro @mackenziesol.”<\/p>\n
