As the Red Sox continue to flounder near the bottom of the American League, it doesn\u2019t appear as though reinforcements are on the way for Boston\u2019s lackluster roster.<\/p>\n

\u200bSpeaking to Tim Healey of The Boston Globe on Wednesday, Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy didn\u2019t give an optimistic update on the status of Roman Anthony \u2014 who has been sidelined for close to two months due to a nagging wrist injury.<\/p>\n

\u201cRoman Anthony (sprained right wrist\/hand) hasn\u2019t made any substantive progress while the Red Sox have been away, Chad Tracy said,\u201d Healey posted on X Wednesday afternoon<\/a>. \u201cHe occasionally tries to swing a lighter bat but hasn\u2019t gotten to a real bat\/hitting progression.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s another frustrating setback for the Red Sox and Anthony \u2014 who has struggled to make much in terms of progress after initially hurting his wrist on May 4 in Detroit.<\/p>\n

Speaking at Fenway Park on June 13, Anthony acknowledged that he was still feeling discomfort in his wrist\/hand while taking light swings.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s progressing, progressing a lot slower than I\u2019d imagined at the beginning of this, but definitely progressing, which is the biggest thing,\u201d Anthony said (via the Boston Herald\u2019s Mac Cerullo<\/a>). \u201cIt\u2019s just pain, that\u2019s what it was and until it\u2019s not that I\u2019ll be here, but as soon as it feels like it starts to get a whole lot better I\u2019m sure we\u2019ll have a better idea of where we\u2019re at and how it\u2019s going to go from here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously it\u2019s not agonizing pain if we\u2019re swinging at this point, but it\u2019s enough pain to where we\u2019re not doing more than the amount that we\u2019re doing,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Initially, the expectation was that Anthony was only going to miss a little over a week due to his injury, which occurred after he fouled off a pitch on a check swing during a game against the Tigers.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, where I stand right now, how it\u2019s gone on and the way it\u2019s felt over the last few days, when the IL stint is over, I plan to be in that game the next day,\u201d Anthony told MLB.com\u2019s Ian Browne in May.<\/a><\/p>\n

Even before his prolonged injury, it\u2019s been a frustrating season for the 22-year-old Anthony.<\/p>\n

\u200bIn 30 games so far with the Red Sox this season, Anthony is slashing .229\/.354\/.321 with one home run and five RBI.\u200b<\/p>\n

Speaking to The Boston Globe\u2019s Alex Speier last week<\/a>, Anthony acknowledged that the only thing that he can do at this point is wait for the torn ligaments in his hand\/wrist to heal \u2014 which usually takes between 8-12 weeks.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not to a point where we\u2019re past a time where we\u2019re like, \u2018Oh [expletive], this is something more serious than what we thought,\u2019 which is a good thing,\u201d Anthony said. \u201cBut it\u2019s also an annoying thing for me [not to have a timetable].\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m doing everything I can in terms of recovery, sleep, and all the things that go into [recovery]. I\u2019m putting my part into it. I\u2019ve just got to let the body do its thing. It\u2019s just been slower than I imagined.\u201d<\/p>\n
