While critics and journalists did receive early screener access for the first seven episodes of the show\u2019s final season, we did not get its grand finale, episode 508. So when season five premieres in its entirety (on Hulu, not on linear FX) tonight, to some extent, we\u2019re all in this final dinner service together.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAlways looking for a leg up, I asked stars <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/jeremy-allen-white\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jeremy-allen-white_1\" data-tag=\"jeremy-allen-white\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jeremy Allen White<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/ayo-edebiri\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ayo-edebiri_1\" data-tag=\"ayo-edebiri\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ayo Edebiri<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/ebon-moss-bachrach\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ebon-moss-bachrach_1\" data-tag=\"ebon-moss-bachrach\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ebon Moss-Bachrach<\/a> to tell me exactly what happens in the last episode. With five seasons of Disney media training under their belts, the trio didn\u2019t flinch. So I asked them what the finale episode is not.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThere are no funerals, Edebiri said, and there\u2019s \u201cno Red Wedding,\u201d referring to the iconic ninth episode of season three of Game of Thrones. (It was actually titled \u201cThe Rains of Castamere,\u201d but is colloquially referred to as the Red Wedding for its bloodbath.) Notice how Edebiri didn\u2019t just say no wedding period \u2014 you out there, Claire Bear? (Molly Gordon, who plays Carmy\u2019s ex-girlfriend, is not in the batch of screeners we received.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIt wasn\u2019t all a dream,\u201d Moss-Bachrach offered. So no Newhart ending.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cBut we\u2019re not saying \u2014 like, it could still be insane-asylum fantasy,\u201d Edebiri said. \u201cThat\u2019s still open.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tI mean, clearly Carmine (White) is not well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cThere\u2019s no epic jumps forward or backwards in time,\u201d Moss-Bachrach offered. As the only one of the three who has really went back in time, for standalone prequel episode \u201cGary,\u201d he\u2019d be the authority here.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOh, and no aliens, Edebiri added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWhat it definitely is, White told The Hollywood Reporter, is the end of The Bear \u2014 though he hedged with an \u201cI think so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a really elegant and appropriate ending to the show that feels complete and significant,\u201d Moss-Bachrach said. Again, not that (at the time of this writing) I\u2019d know. (Also, Storer did not shoot multiple endings or employ any such trickery to keep secrets, well, secret.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThere are also no discussions for \u201cGary,\u201d written by <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/the-bear-surprise-prequel-episode-1236586465\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/the-bear-surprise-prequel-episode-1236586465\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">and starring Moss-Bachrach and Jon Bernthal<\/a>, to ultimately serve as a backdoor pilot for a Better Call Saul-type spinoff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cYou pitching me?\u201d Moss-Bachrach replied. \u201cI don\u2019t think so. I think \u2018Gary\u2019 is this sweet little fulcrum of a flashback that ties the seasons together, and I think that should stay right there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe surprise \u201cGary\u201d release preceded season five by 51 days; in story, most of the episode preceded the events of season one by a few years. When Moss-Bachrach and Bernthal shot \u201cGary,\u201d they were \u201cnever really sure where it was gonna be placed\u201d in the greater The Bear schedule, Moss-Bachrach continued. What showrunner Storer picked was \u201cperfect,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIt just made it vibrate on a bigger level, and it had brought it to life in a different way somehow, rather than just this sort of hermetically-sealed flashback. It became more present,\u201d Moss-Bachrach said.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/wp-content\/themes\/vip\/pmc-hollywoodreporter-2021\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/TCDBEAR_FX052-H-2026.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"730\" width=\"1296\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tEbon Moss-Bachrach and Jon Bernthal in The Bear.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFX on Hulu\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe\u00a0fifth and final season of The\u00a0Bear picks up\u00a0the\u00a0morning after Sydney (Edebiri), Richie (Moss-Bachrach) and Natalie (Abby Elliott) discover that Carmy has quit, leaving the restaurant to\u00a0them. \u201cWith no money,\u00a0the\u00a0threat of a sale and a torrential storm in\u00a0their way,\u00a0the\u00a0new partners must band together with\u00a0the\u00a0rest of\u00a0the\u00a0team to achieve one last service, hoping\u00a0they\u2019ll finally earn a Michelin star,\u201d the synopsis reads. \u201cUltimately,\u00a0they learn that what makes a restaurant \u2018perfect\u2019 might not be\u00a0the\u00a0food, but\u00a0the\u00a0people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe\u00a0half-hour series also stars Lionel Boyce, Liza Col\u00f3n-Zayas and Matty Matheson, with Ricky Staffieri, Oliver Platt, Will Poulter and Jamie Lee Curtis in recurring roles.\u00a0The series was created by Storer, who serves as executive producer alongside Josh Senior, Cooper Wehde, Tyson Bidner, Matheson, Hiro Murai and Rene Gube. Storer\u2019s sister \u2014 and a legit chef \u2014 Courtney Storer is the show\u2019s culinary producer.
