{"id":726150,"date":"2026-06-26T00:19:08","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T00:19:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/726150\/"},"modified":"2026-06-26T00:19:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T00:19:08","slug":"first-hawaiian-monk-seal-born-on-oahus-east-side-receives-name-from-5th-grade-class","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/726150\/","title":{"rendered":"First Hawaiian monk seal born on Oahu\u2019s east side receives name from 5th-grade class"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) &#8211; Meet the newest addition to Oahu\u2019s Hawaiian monk seals, P\u014dhaku!<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Hawaii Marine Animal Response (HMAR) announced on Thursday that the first Hawaiian monk seal pup born this season on Oahu\u2019s east side has officially been gifted a name by the 5th-grade class at Kahuku Elementary School.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The name P\u014dhaku translates to \u201cstone.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Now officially identified as RV20 with tags V20\/V24, P\u014dhaku is a male pup whose name was thoughtfully chosen by the students after learning about Hawaiian monk seals and their background.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The students who suggested P\u014dhaku wanted to honor RV20\u2019s grandmother, Rocky, as many of their classmates connected with the idea since they, too, are named after family members.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">HMAR posted to Facebook, \u201dMahalo to the students and teachers at Kahuku Elementary School for helping welcome P\u014dhaku into the world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 Hawaii News Now.
