Iga Swiatek is one of many big-name singles stars taking part in the US Open\u2019s brand-new Mixed Doubles format, starting later this month.<\/p>\n

It will be a two-day event held in the days leading up to the official tournament commencement, as part of the event\u2019s infamous Fan Week.<\/p>\n

And, it promises unrivalled entertainment featuring some of the biggest names in the sport.<\/p>\n

Naturally, many have pushed back against it, particularly doubles specialists who have seen their spots usurped by singles players.<\/p>\n

However, few can argue against the intrigue this format has sparked, and the debates that have occurred since its announcement.<\/p>\n

Iga Swiatek<\/a>, speaking at the Cincinnati Open<\/a>, has now given her verdict on the event as a whole.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As a calm and measured individual, Swiatek can often be seen as the voice of reason on the WTA, seldom saying something she cannot back up.<\/p>\n

That is why her opinion is so valued.<\/p>\n

So, to see her speaking about this event to Tennis Channel should generate intrigue, especially considering how honest she was in her assessment of it.<\/p>\n

Asked about how she feels now that fans have started to get excited, she admitted: \u201cNo, I think that\u2019s the best thing about it, and that\u2019s why I think it\u2019s gonna be fun. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not playing mixed doubles often, so I just hope I\u2019m gonna know what\u2019s going on on the court, but at the United Cup, when the singles players are playing mixed doubles, it\u2019s always a great thing for the fans as well. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd so now, when also the doubles players are going to be there, there\u2019s going to be some differences in terms of the tactical and feeling what\u2019s going on on the court. So I think it\u2019s going to be interesting, but I think singles players should just kind of play a singles game, but not overthink it too much. It\u2019s going to be tricky.\u201d<\/p>\n

This came just after Daniil Medvedev told Swiatek the trait she has he\u2019d love to steal from her<\/a>, speaking on the same panel.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Has Iga Swiatek ever played doubles before?<\/p>\n

For some, this will be their first real foray into doubles, making them unlikely to enjoy much success in this format.<\/p>\n

Swiatek, however, has some history which could help her claim some big victories at the event.<\/p>\n

After all, she is a Grand Slam doubles finalist, having lost in the French Open final in 2021 to Barbora Krej\u010d\u00edkov\u00e1 and Kate\u0159ina Siniakov\u00e1.<\/p>\n

Overall, the 23-year-old has played just 41 doubles matches, winning 27 and failing to win a title.<\/p>\n

However, her pedigree and experience of playing and impressing at a major could help her outperform some of her singles counterparts at the US Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n
