Its rise follows seven straight days of declines, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/business\/article-loonie-tumbles-to-lowest-level-in-more-than-a-year\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/business\/article-loonie-tumbles-to-lowest-level-in-more-than-a-year\/\">currency touching a 14-month low<\/a> of 1.4248 on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">U.S. inflation increased in May, with the Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index \u200cbreaking above \u200b4% for the \u200cfirst time in three years as the Iran war boosted energy \u200bprices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">\u201cOverall price growth remains above target, \u2060but a slow-motion disinflation process should get under way in \u2060the coming months, giving the front end of the yield curve room \u200bto rally as the most aggressive tightening scenarios are priced out,\u201d said Karl Schamotta, chief market strategist at Corpay. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">He added that the U.S. dollar could be vulnerable to less hawkish commentary from members of the Federal Open Market Committee \u2060in the coming weeks. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">The U.S. dollar fell against a basket of major currencies after U.S. economic data slightly dented expectations for rate hikes from the Federal Reserve this year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">The U.S. price of oil, one of Canada\u2019s major exports, was trading 0.5% higher at $70.68 \u2060a barrel. Still, its pullback from peak levels \u200bduring the U.S. war with Iran has eased some concerns about \u2060the global inflation outlook.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Statistics Canada data showed payroll employment rose by 22,000 jobs in April \u200cand that average weekly earnings accelerated to 3.8% year-over-year from 3.5% in \u200bMarch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Canadian government bond yields were mixed across the curve.
