{"id":727804,"date":"2026-06-26T19:46:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T19:46:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/727804\/"},"modified":"2026-06-26T19:46:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T19:46:09","slug":"brendan-sorsby-gets-more-bad-news-this-time-from-the-cfl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/727804\/","title":{"rendered":"Brendan Sorsby gets more bad news, this time from the CFL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">Days after the NFL <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbnation.com\/nfl\/1119793\/brendan-sorsby-supplemental-draft-nfl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">informed the quarterback<\/a> that the league would not hold a Supplemental Draft, closing a potential pathway for the Texas Tech passer to the professional ranks, the CFL has informed teams that they will not be \u201cpermitted\u201d to add Sorsby to their rosters via the league\u2019s negotiation list.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/go.skimresources.com\/?id=1025X1734621&amp;xs=1&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.usatoday.com%2Fstory%2Fsports%2Fncaaf%2F2026%2F06%2F26%2Fbrendan-sorsby-cfl-college-football-future%2F90707614007%2F\" rel=\"sponsored nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">statement first provided to USA Today<\/a>, the CFL indicated that teams will not be able to add Sorsby to their rosters via the negotiation list. \u201cUpholding the integrity of the league and ensuring fair competition are paramount to the CFL. The allegations involving Brendan Sorsby are serious and concerning,\u201d said the league.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">\u201cAt this time, the CFL will not register a contract for him, and no team will be permitted to add him to its negotiation list.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">The CFL season began earlier this month, and runs into November. Under CFL eligibility rules, an American player can be added to a team\u2019s roster during the annual draft &#8212; which took place in April &#8212; or through an open tryout. American players not taken in the draft can be added to a roster via the \u201cnegotiation list,\u201d which means that team has secured his signing rights exclusively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">At this point, Sorsby\u2019s options are limited. He could play for a junior college, which is the path former Iowa State quarterback Hunter Dekkers followed to the New Orleans Saints.
