I haven\u2019t started Star Fox<\/a> on the Switch 2 yet, but I do have a lot of fond memories of Star Fox 64<\/a>. Back then, Falco Lombardi, the cocky bird space pilot and frenemy to Fox McCloud, was my favorite character. I loved his smarmy attitude and memorable one-liners like \u201cHey Einstein, I\u2019m on your side!\u201d So naturally, I wanted to see how the new remake would characterize him and the rest of the crew, and I found one clip that captures Falco at his worst: he is the toxic DPS who\u2019s asking where his heals are in chat after diving into the enemy backline alone.<\/p>\n

The clip, from X user KeionJ05, has Falco cycling through several comms in less than 30 seconds, at one point berating the player for not giving him the backup he needs and saying he \u201ccould use some of that teamwork\u201d they talk about in the Star Fox onboarding meeting. Then, once Fox actually helps him, Falco gets on his case for saving his ass and, a moment later, tells him to stop stealing his kills.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Obviously a lot of these voice lines are prompted by different in-game events, such as Falco being swarmed by enemy forces or the player taking down an opponent near Falco\u2019s Arwing, so usually these types of contradictory lines wouldn\u2019t play in such rapid succession. But man, if hearing them didn\u2019t spark Overwatch flashbacks of an overconfident Genji dashing into enemy territory and asking why I wasn\u2019t healing him after he left my line of sight. Shoutout to new Falco voice actor Andrew Russell for pulling that part of the character off.<\/p>\n

Falco is such an iconic part of Nintendo history, and I am so honored to be even a small piece of that legacy. <\/p>\n

Star Fox came out on Switch 2 yesterday, and it\u2019s already been a source of endless intentional and unintentional comedy, especially with its VTuber-like avatars<\/a> that let you put your favorite character\u2019s portrait over your camera feed.<\/p>\n
