Mets fans are in even more despair this week as the team got swept by the Cubs and fired their manager.<\/p>\n
But a 5-year-old Long Islander saw the writing on the wall months ago \u2014 when he went viral for sobbing about being a Mets fan after learning he couldn\u2019t switch loyalties to the New York baseball team that actually wins.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a long morning after his older brother told him we\u2019re\u00a0@mets\u00a0fans no matter what,\u201d Ezra Rudansky\u2019s dad, Isaac, captioned the Instagram clip, which has racked up 346,000 views.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy can\u2019t you be a Mets fan?\u201d Isaac asked the boy as the video begins.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause I don\u2019t want to be the worst,\u201d Ezra answered through tears.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re Mets fans in this house,\u201d the father of four replied.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I don\u2019t want to be the worst team,\u201d Ezra insisted.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo which\u00a0team do you want to root for?\u201d Isaac asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cYankees,\u201d Ezra said.<\/p>\n

Ezra of Woodmere, Long Island, told The Post that although his family and friends are Mets fans, he wants to root for the Yankees, \u201cbecause the Mets are the worst.\u201d<\/p>\n
His 10-year-old brother, Aaron, recounted exactly when he broke his little brother\u2019s heart.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was after the Mets lost 12 games in a row,\u201d Ezra\u2019s big brother explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery Mets fan is extremely irate right now, so it struck a chord,\u201d their dad, Isaac, said on Friday. <\/p>\n
Both Mets and Yankees fans commented on the Instagram video of Ezra crying.<\/p>\n
\u201cMets GM David Stearns was all about run prevention, he went out and bought five shortstops, let beloved players like Diaz and Alonso and Nimmo go, and with the second-highest payroll in baseball, the Mets are a disaster. With six infield errors against the Cubs, this just has to be rock bottom. Firing Mendoza was just the first in many necessary changes to prepare for a better season in 2027.\u201d<\/p>\n
Many in the comments section agreed with little Ezra\u2019s assessment, with comments like, \u201cSmart little boy!\u201d and \u201cStand your ground Kid!!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHang in there kid. It can only get worse!\u201d someone else quipped.<\/p>\n

Others agreed with his dad, and called being a Mets fan \u201ccharacter building.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSorry friend, no choice. But we got heart,\u201d one said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe may lose, but damn it, we have integrity,\u201d another said.<\/p>\n
\u201cGotta work through the pain, little man. Trust me, every 10 years or so when the Mets maybe look like a contender it will be fun,\u201d someone else added.<\/p>\n

A few even tagged the Yankees, telling the team to send Ezra tickets and a signed jersey, and one fan offered to send the boy his Bronx Bombers baseball cards.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think that baseball teams in general don\u2019t do a good enough job marketing to kids, because you become a fan for life at the age of 5. So all the Yankees need to do is send him a jersey and he would be a diehard fan for life,\u201d said Isaac, who works in advertising.<\/p>\n
Although Ezra admitted that he still watches Mets games on TV, he said when they lose, \u201cI get mad.\u201d<\/p>\n
