ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. \u2014 The Flyers were hoping to take a goaltender in the 2026 NHL draft after not grabbing one the previous two summers.<\/p>\n
They got one in the second round Saturday at 62nd overall, selecting Martin Psohlavec, a 6-foot-5 prospect from Czechia. He was ranked No. 17 among international goalies on NHL Central Scouting<\/a>. He ended up being the third goalie taken in the draft.<\/p>\n The 18-year-old recorded a 1.92 goals-against average, .928 save percentage and eight shutouts in 42 games this season with Karlovy Vary at the Czechia junior level.<\/p>\n “Our goalie department is really happy about being able to work with him,” Flyers assistant general manager Brent Flahr said from the team’s draft headquarters at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.<\/p>\n Psohlavec played well for Team Czechia at the 2026 IIHF U-18 World Junior Championship, going 3-1-0 with a 1.68 goals-against average and .926 save percentage.<\/p>\n “Martin’s a big goaltender for a young guy,” Ryan Cyr, the Flyers’ goaltender scout and development consultant, said. “He’s very athletic for a goalie of his size, with really good feet, and we just feel the upside that he has is very high. We’re looking forward to seeing how he can develop over the next few years.”<\/p>\n The Flyers acquired this second-round pick by trading back in the first round Friday night and grabbing 6-foot-7 defenseman Maksim Sokolovskii<\/a>.<\/p>\n The team’s first second-rounder was defenseman Brek Likse at 53rd overall<\/a>.<\/p>\n The last time the Flyers drafted a goalie was 2023, when they took two of them. They selected\u00a0Carson Bjarnason in the second round<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Egor Zavragin in the third<\/a>.<\/p>\n Bjarnason is playing for AHL affiliate Lehigh Valley. Zavragin has at least one more season in the KHL, Russia’s top pro league.<\/p>\n The Flyers ended up grabbing two goalies in this draft, too.
