Optum Health is in discussion with several large health systems to sell certain specialties affiliated with Optum Medical Care New York and Crystal Run Healthcare, including orthopedics, general surgery, and urology, among others.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for Optum said that it has signed or is in the process of negotiating Letters of Intent with these health systems, to complete agreements and close the sales by the end of the year. Optum will continue to focus its core work on primary care, pediatrics, and medical specialties in ambulatory settings.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson added that Optum will \u201cmaintain a strong presence across New York and continue to take care of the community in many primary care and specialty practices.\u201d<\/p>\n
Optum Health, the nation\u2019s largest employer of physicians under UnitedHealth Group, bought Crystal Run in February 2023. It has health practices throughout the Hudson Valley. Optum\u2019s potential sales come amid concerns of healthcare consolidation in the region, which has led to less access to healthcare services.<\/p>\n
Crystal Run Healthcare\/Optum announced in May that it is closing its OB\/GYN practice in Rock Hill in Sullivan County, effective July 1. UnitedHealth is facing multiple investigations by the Department of Justice, including an antitrust review of Optum\u2019s acquisition of doctors\u2019<\/p>\n
offices. Optum has purchased medical practices across the Hudson Valley with market control of more than 2,500 providers at CareMount Medical and Crystal Run Healthcare, and 10 percent of doctors nationwide.<\/p>\n
Dr. Jon Nasser, CEO of Optum New York and New Jersey, said that patients \u201ccan continue to count on Optum for care that is familiar and personal.\u201d He added that during the transition of certain specialty services, \u201cthe goal is to keep that care local.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOptum Medical Care and Crystal Run Healthcare remain focused on providing a core set of specialty services and adult and pediatric primary care in our community-based settings,\u201d Nasser said. \u201cPatients can continue to see the care teams they know and rely on, with care that remains coordinated and focused on quality, access, and affordability.\u201d<\/p>\n
