Huntsville Hospital Health System is notifying patients that some of their personal health information was accessed during a security breach at Cerner, a third-party electronic health record vendor now part of Oracle Health.<\/p>\n

The breach happened on Cerner’s systems, not Huntsville Hospital’s own network. On Aug. 12, 2025, Cerner told the hospital and other health care clients nationwide that an unauthorized person gained access to data stored in their electronic health record system.<\/p>\n

Cerner’s investigation found that someone accessed personal health information on their legacy systems at least as early as Jan. 22, 2025. Officials with Huntsville Hospital Health System say that law enforcement investigators asked Cerner to delay notifying patients and hospital customers because it could have interfered with their investigation.<\/p>\n

The compromised information may include names, Social Security numbers and details from medical records. That could mean medical record numbers, doctors’ names, diagnoses, medications, test results, images and treatment information.<\/p>\n

Huntsville Hospital officials say Cerner started investigating as soon as they learned about the breach. They contacted law enforcement, secured the affected systems and brought in outside cybersecurity experts to help.<\/p>\n

The vendor is offering two free services to help protect patients. Adults can get Experian IdentityWorks Credit Plus 3B, while minors can access IdentityWorks Minor Plus, both providing credit monitoring for 24 months.
