Iraq’s Communications and Media
\nCommission (CMC) Appeals Council on Sunday rejected three appeals challenging
\ndisciplinary measures imposed on TV presenter Mona Sami, Alawla TV, and
\npolitical analyst Issam Hussein.<\/p>\n

In decisions signed by Appeals
\nCouncil Chairman Judge Iyad Mohsen Dhamad, the body ruled that a program’s
\nmanagement and presenter bear legal responsibility for statements made by
\nguests because they have the authority to intervene immediately and steer
\ndiscussions back within professional standards.<\/p>\n

It concluded that Sami<\/a>‘s failure to
\nintervene amounted to approval of, and participation in, broadcasting what it
\ndescribed as “sectarian poison.”<\/p>\n

The council also found that
\nHussein’s remarks sought to incite sectarian and religious divisions through
\ncontent that reportedly threatens civil peace and public order. Freedom of
\nexpression, it stressed, is not an absolute right but must be exercised within
