\n\tJohn Oliver<\/a> usually appears on TV screens late at night, but the Last Week Tonight<\/a> host has long harbored a desire to appear on daytime TV.<\/p>\n

\n\tLater this week, he will. <\/p>\n

\n\tOliver will appear in a \u201csignificant\u201d three-episode guest role on ABC\u2019s General Hospital<\/a>, he revealed on Sunday\u2019s episode. His first appearance is scheduled to air Thursday, with his other episodes set for Friday and Monday, July 6.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe role came about after Oliver pleaded to be cast on a daytime soap on Last Week Tonight\u2019s March 8 episode. After noting that ESPN\u2019s Stephen A. Smith has appeared on and off on General Hospital for years, Oliver said, \u201cTo all the soap operas out there, let me say this: I am officially offering myself to you. Write me a role, and I wll be on your set so fast, it will make your head spin.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe also said he didn\u2019t want to play himself, but a character with a \u201cridiculous\u201d name and that \u201cI want to do something juicy, like murder, or slapping, or being slapped, or being someone\u2019s long-lost something.\u201d Watch the full Last Week Tonight segment from March below.<\/p>\n

\n\t A couple weeks after the reel above went live on Instagram, General Hospital\u2019s Instagram account commented, \u201cYou\u2019re welcome in Port Charles anytime. Our DMs are open.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJust what Oliver\u2019s role will be remains to be seen. Based on the photo at the top of this story, he is not playing himself, as his hair is dyed black and he\u2019s dressed in a monochrome suit, shit and tie that likely signifies his character means business.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhen John Oliver publicly threw down the gauntlet and said he wanted to appear on a soap, we didn\u2019t hesitate for a second,\u201d General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini said in a statement. \u201cHe was everything you\u2019d hope he\u2019d be: prepared, professional, funny, and genuinely kind to everyone on set. He plays an integral character in the story, and I can\u2019t wait for fans to see who he crosses paths within Port Charles.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSaid Oliver in a statement, \u201cGeneral Hospital was everything I hoped it would be.
