Further testing revealed that Marcus Semien has a Grade 3 hip flexor strain that will keep him sidelined between four and six weeks, as first reported by Jon Heyman<\/a> on Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Mets placed<\/a> the veteran second baseman on the 10-day injured list on Thursday, though a singular incident of when the injury occurred is unknown. They recalled Ronny Mauricio from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Semien\u2019s introductory campaign in Queens after being traded from the Texas Rangers for Brandon Nimmo has been nothing short of a nightmare. In 80 games, he was\u00a0batting<\/a>\u00a0.214 with a .613 OPS, nine home runs, and 29 RBI.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mauricio and Brett Baty have stepped in at the position in Semien\u2019s absence, though Baty had started each of the previous two games entering Monday\u2019s series opener in Toronto against the Blue Jays. Neither provides much offensively, and Baty\u2019s struggles at the MLB level continue to mystify the organization. The utility man is batting just .210 with a .589 OPS this season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Granted, just about everything has gone wrong for the Mets this season. They are one of the worst teams in all of baseball, sitting in last place in the NL East and 14 games under .500.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
