The FIFA World Cup has captured the attention of sports fans across the United States, and Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham is no exception.<\/p>\n
With the expanded 48-team tournament taking place across the United States, Canada and Mexico, Cunningham has been following the action closely. But beyond the matches themselves, she says one aspect of this year’s event has stood out above everything else, and it’s something she hopes never changes.<\/p>\n
During a recent appearance on the “Show Me Something” podcast, <\/a>Cunningham shared one request for the future of the World Cup that caught plenty of attention.<\/p>\n MORE:\u00a0Sophie Cunningham misses Fever practice with illness ahead of Las Vegas matchup<\/a><\/p>\n Sophie Cunningham wants the World Cup to keep coming back<\/p>\n As she discussed the tournament, Cunningham praised the atmosphere surrounding the event and the positive experiences fans from around the world have shared while visiting the United States.<\/p>\n “I feel like we should host the World Cup every four years,” Cunningham said.<\/p>\n She acknowledged that no country is perfect, but said she’s enjoyed seeing visitors celebrate what they’ve experienced during the tournament.<\/p>\n “I have seen so much on my social media of everyone around the world actually celebrating,” Cunningham said. “I know that America is not perfect, but I have absolutely loved people from foreign countries coming here and saying how great our country is.”<\/p>\n While FIFA rotates hosting duties among different nations every four years, Cunningham admitted she’d happily see the tournament return to the United States on a regular basis.<\/p>\n
