Mattie Schnell never imagined their backyard would become the favorite hangout for a curious deer. The wild visitor has become a regular guest, creating an unlikely connection and memorable moments with the family.

The family named the friendly buck Benny, and he was initially spotted by Mattie’s husband one evening and walked right up to him. As an avid hunter, her husband has a stockpile of corn, which he decided to offer the inquisitive visitor and without hesitation, the buck ate the corn from their hands.

Since then, the family has consistently put corn out in their yard and Benny shows up most mornings and nights. He also brings two other small bucks and a doe, who aren’t always as eagerly approachable, along to enjoy the feast.

Mattie’s kids, Kinsley and Casen, have grown quite fond of the fawns and love the daily encounters with Benny,.

“We are always keeping an eye out for him so we can go say hello,” Schnell said. “He absolutely loves having his head scratched and will raise his nose to give kisses over the fence.”

Mattie says they make sure to stay on the other side of the fence while interacting with Benny and friends and remind their children that they are still wild animals even though they may sweet and adorable.

ASHLAND, Ohio (WSYX) — Move over, Bambi—this real-life deer is stealing hearts after befriending one Ohio family.
