Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has delivered his clearest verdict yet on Julian Alvarez\u2019s future amid strong interest from Barcelona.<\/p>\n

The Julian Alvarez Barcelona transfer saga<\/a> has gathered pace in recent weeks after the Argentine forward informed Atletico Madrid of his desire to leave this summer<\/a> in order to fulfil his ambition of playing for Barcelona.<\/p>\n

Club president Joan Laporta has already confirmed that Barcelona opened talks with Atletico Madrid<\/a>, although the Madrid side remain reluctant to strengthen one of their biggest domestic rivals.<\/p>\n

Speaking to ESPN<\/a>, Simeone made it clear how highly he rates the Argentine international, describing him as one of the best players in world football.<\/p>\n

Simeone\u2019s message over Julian Alvarez Barcelona links<\/p>\n

With Julian Alvarez transfer rumours continuing to circulate, Simeone explained just how important the forward remains to Atletico Madrid\u2019s plans.<\/p>\n

The Argentine coach believes Alvarez is among the top players in the game and revealed that the club intends to build the team around him should he remain in the Spanish capital.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is the best footballer we have at Atl\u00e9tico de Madrid, without a doubt he is among the top 5 in the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIf he stays, we have planned to generate the game around him.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Atletico Madrid manager also offered an update on Alvarez\u2019s physical condition after recently meeting the player.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I actually ran into him today on my way to visit Julian for a bit, and we chatted a little\u2014mostly about how he\u2019s doing right now, how his ankle was holding up, and how important he is to the team.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe told me he was feeling great, that he was already at 100 percent.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s an extraordinary player, the best footballer we have at Atl\u00e9tico de Madrid \u2013 his stats speak for themselves too.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s had a very good run of form and has brought something special to the team as a player, and well, we\u2019re very pleased with his work,\u201d added the Atletico Madrid manager.<\/p>\n

Barcelona continue monitoring Alvarez<\/p>\n

Despite Atletico Madrid\u2019s determination to retain him<\/a>, Barcelona remain attentive to developments surrounding Julian Alvarez\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

The striker is viewed as a player capable of elevating Hansi Flick\u2019s attack, and his reported desire to wear the Blaugrana shirt has only increased speculation over a potential move.<\/p>\n

However, Simeone avoided offering any definitive answers regarding the striker\u2019s long-term plans.<\/p>\n

Addressing the situation, he said, \u201cI can\u2019t say anything more than what I\u2019m telling you about him because he\u2019s conducted himself well as a person.<\/p>\n
