The Los Angeles Dodgers look to continue building an even larger lead over the San Diego Padres in Game 2 of this four-game series on Friday night. The Dodgers cruised to victory in the opener, 12-7, after LA manager Dave Roberts earned his 1,000th career victory earlier in the week coaching for both the Padres and Dodgers. With the Padres\u2019 most recent slide, the Dodgers are 13 games ahead of second-place San Diego with a 57-31 overall record and a 27-14 home mark. Los Angeles has won five of its last six games and leads this season series 5-2. The Padres fell to .500 with their most recent loss, now 43-43 with a 20-22 away mark. San Diego now has an equivalent record with the third-place Arizona Diamondbacks. The NL Wild Card is clearly the way back to the playoffs for the Padres now, sitting three games back of the third and final spot currently held by the St. Louis Cardinals. The Dodgers are the huge -252 favorites to go up 2-0 on Friday night. That has a lot to do with starting Shohei Ohtani, who is having one of his best seasons on the mound.
