\"PaulFollowing last week\u2019s iHeartMedia cuts<\/a>, rumors have been swirling about the status of Rock 94.1 WHJY<\/a> Providence RI morning hosts Paul Fuller and \u2018Al Michaels\u2019 Milukas.<\/p>\n

The duo debuted in mornings on WHJY on July 15, 1990 and will be celebrating their 36th anniversary on the station later this month. Former WHJY afternoon host Geoff Charles claimed earlier this week<\/a> that the duo were fired by iHeart although their final show will be on September 1. While nobody at iHeart will comment one way or another, Matthews told WJAR-TV<\/a> that he could not comment on the reports, but to keep listening. <\/p>\n

Former \u201cCat Country 98.1\u201d WCTK morning host Brian Mulhern, whose brother Kevin has served as Paul & Al\u2019s producer for over two decades, rebuked the report of the duo being fired and instead noted that they will be retiring on their own accord, which matches what we\u2019ve heard as well. He wrote<\/a>, \u201cFor the record (and I\u2019ve intentionally remained quiet on this for over a week). Paul and Al aren\u2019t \u201closing their gigs.\u201d They aren\u2019t \u201cbeing fired.\u201d They were retiring all along, and aren\u2019t losing so much as even one penny as a result. Appreciate, and respect, their remarkable legacy \u2014 and what they\u2019ve brought for 36 years to Providence radio, AND the industry. Sure, I\u2019m a bitter pr*ck in regard to the overall state of the biz. But unlike others, I would NEVER spread misinformation to suit how my own journey came to an end. Congrats to these guys, for all they\u2019ve accomplished. Long before I hit the airwaves, I listened to, and respected what they brought to the table. They were both worthy competitiors, and an influence. And I\u2019ll forever love them for what they\u2019ve also done for my little brother. Celebrate this. Don\u2019t wring your hands. So many of us only wish it had ended in exactly the same way.\u201d<\/p>\n
