(KPTV) &#8211; A local athlete who didn\u2019t start going to the gym until she was 71 is now a world record holder in powerlifting at 87 years old.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Ten years into her powerlifting journey, Rosemary Nichols just set state and national records in three categories for her age group at the National Powerlifting League Western regionals in Newport.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Nichols became a world record holder last July at the U.S. Powerlifting Association Nationals in Pittsburgh, alongside her current trainer, Kyle Singh, who sends her custom workout plans from Eugene.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 KPTV-KPDX.
