Iraqi Prime Minister Ali\u00a0al-Zaidi vowed on Saturday a tougher
\ncrackdown on corruption, pledging that no official would be spared \u201cregardless
\nof his affiliation.\u201d<\/p>\n
During a visit to the Interior Ministry, al-Zaidi praised the ministry\u2019s
\nrole in maintaining stability and public order, noting that its direct
\ninteraction with citizens should be matched by services grounded in respect for
\nhuman rights and insulated from political influence.<\/p>\n
On anti-corruption efforts, he described the Interior Ministry as the
\ngovernment\u2019s \u201carm\u201d in implementing its strategy to combat graft, instructing
\nthe Integrity Commission, the Federal Board of Supreme Audit, and security
\nagencies to continue pursuing corruption-related cases and recover public funds
\nacross state institutions.<\/p>\n
On June 28, the Iraqi government launched Operation \u201cDawn Crackdown,\u201d a
\nnationwide anti-corruption campaign under al-Zaidi\u2019s direction. A security
\nsource informed Shafaq News that the operation led<\/a> to more than 67 arrests in
\nits first 24 hours. Sources familiar with the operation reported that the
\ninitial phase is expected to target more than 200 current and former officials,
\npoliticians, business owners, and other suspects.<\/p>\n
