{"id":743937,"date":"2026-07-05T03:45:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-05T03:45:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/743937\/"},"modified":"2026-07-05T03:45:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-05T03:45:09","slug":"henrik-rybinski-signs-with-toronto-maple-leafs-as-trio-of-hershey-bears-veterans-move-on-in-free-agency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/743937\/","title":{"rendered":"Henrik Rybinski signs with Toronto Maple Leafs as trio of Hershey Bears veterans move on in free agency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Hershey Bears continue to turn the page from their back-to-back Calder Cup championship teams from 2023 and 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Henrik Rybinski was the latest longtime Bear to move on,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/mapleleafs\/news\/maple-leafs-sign-lettieri-mcward-rybinski-and-hlavaj\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> signing a two-year, $1.75 million deal<\/a> with the <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/team\/toronto-maple-leafs\/\" class=\"team\" title=\"View Toronto Maple Leafs news and roster\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> on July 3. The two-way deal has an average annual value of $875K in the NHL, and if Rybinski plays in the minors, he will make $450K in Year 1 and $900K in Year 2.  <\/p>\n<p>Rybinski recorded 30 points (10g, 20a) in 59 games for the Bears last season, hitting double digits in goals for the second consecutive year. The speedy, two-way center spent nearly the entire season in the top six after carving out a role in the checking line to start his Bears career.<\/p>\n<p>Rybinski joins a Leafs organization where <a href=\"https:\/\/puckpedia.com\/team\/toronto-maple-leafs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">three of their top four centermen<\/a> are 31 or older (<a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/player\/john-tavares\/\" class=\"player\" title=\"View John Tavares&#039;s stats, bio, and status\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Tavares<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/player\/colton-sissons\/\" class=\"player\" title=\"View Colton Sissons&#039;s stats, bio, and status\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Colton Sissons<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/player\/teddy-blueger\/\" class=\"player\" title=\"View Teddy Blueger&#039;s stats, bio, and status\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Teddy Blueger<\/a>). The Leafs\u2019 AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, also won the Calder Cup in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The 25-year-old forward registered 99 points (30g, 69a) in 222 career games with the Hershey Bears, adding 13 points (6g, 7a) in 28 Calder Cup playoff games. A former roommate of <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/player\/hendrix-lapierre\/\" class=\"player\" title=\"View Hendrix Lapierre&#039;s stats, bio, and status\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hendrix Lapierre<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/player\/vincent-iorio\/\" class=\"player\" title=\"View Vincent Iorio&#039;s stats, bio, and status\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vincent Iorio<\/a>, Rybinski gave Hershey especially big minutes in the 2024 postseason when they repeated as champions.<\/p>\n<p>Rybinksi <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/2024\/12\/21\/capitals-recall-henrik-rybinski-after-placing-lars-eller-on-injured-reserve\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">received his first and only NHL call-up in December of the 2024-25 season<\/a>, but did not make his NHL debut. <\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/file-henrik-rybinski-smiling-headline-io-1.jpg\" alt=\"Henrik Rybinski emotional about first NHL call-up: \u2018You think of all the doubts you had\u2019 that\u2019d \u2019you ever get this opportunity\u2019\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/rmnb-main-logo-bubble-border.png\" alt=\"RMNB\" class=\"rmnb-embed-card-logo\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he\u2019s been one of the big surprises of someone that wasn\u2019t necessarily on our radar to make the Washington Capitals,\u201d Carbery said in late September 2024 when Rybinski was one of the team\u2019s final cuts in training camp. \u201cWe\u2019ve followed him and what he\u2019s done in Hershey, becoming a bigger part of their Calder Cup-winning team last year. So, coming into camp, you know, you\u2019ve watched him a little bit in the American League, seen him, and now he really impressed our staff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know management feels the same way. That\u2019s why he\u2019s earned the opportunity that he\u2019s gotten into games, and I thought he\u2019s done a tremendous job of excelling in the games that he\u2019s played in, and he\u2019s been good in the practices. Feels like he\u2019s trending [up] in our organization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The only players that remain in the organization from those Bears championship teams include <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/player\/ivan-miroshnichenko\/\" class=\"player\" title=\"View Ivan Miroshnichenko&#039;s stats, bio, and status\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ivan Miroshnichenko<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/player\/bogdan-trineyev\/\" class=\"player\" title=\"View Bogdan Trineyev&#039;s stats, bio, and status\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bogdan Trineyev<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/player\/ethen-frank\/\" class=\"player\" title=\"View Ethen Frank&#039;s stats, bio, and status\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ethen Frank<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/player\/aliaksei-protas\/\" class=\"player\" title=\"View Aliaksei Protas&#039;s stats, bio, and status\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Aliaksei Protas<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/player\/dylan-mcilrath\/\" class=\"player\" title=\"View Dylan McIlrath&#039;s stats, bio, and status\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dylan McIlrath<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/player\/clay-stevenson\/\" class=\"player\" title=\"View Clay Stevenson&#039;s stats, bio, and status\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Clay Stevenson<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rybinski was one of three Bears players to officially move on since NHL free agency started. Forward <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/player\/brett-leason\/\" class=\"player\" title=\"View Brett Leason&#039;s stats, bio, and status\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brett Leason<\/a>, who <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/2025\/10\/27\/brett-leason-contract-capitals-waivers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">returned to the Capitals organization in October<\/a> after Sheldon Rempal returned to the KHL, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/sharks\/news\/sharks-sign-forward-brett-leason\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">signed a one-year, two-way contract with the San Jose Sharks<\/a> on July 2. The deal will pay Leason the veteran minimum of $850K in the NHL and $425K in the minors.<\/p>\n<p>Defenseman <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/player\/corey-schueneman\/\" class=\"player\" title=\"View Corey Schueneman&#039;s stats, bio, and status\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Corey Schueneman<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/ducks\/news\/ducks-sign-four-players-to-two-way-contracts\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Anaheim Ducks<\/a> on July 2 worth $1.75 million. The rearguard\u2019s cap hit is $875K per season. He\u2019ll make $450K in the minors.<\/p>\n<p>The Capitals <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/2025\/11\/03\/capitals-trade-calle-rosen-corey-schueneman-st-louis-blues\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">traded for the 30-year-old Schueneman on November 3<\/a>, sending rearguard Calle Rosen back to the <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/team\/st-louis-blues\/\" class=\"team\" title=\"View St. Louis Blues news and roster\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">St. Louis Blues<\/a> in return. Schueneman scored six goals and assisted 25 others in 71 combined games for Hershey and the Springfield Thunderbirds.<\/p>\n<p>Other Bears to depart this offseason include team captain Aaron Ness, who <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/2026\/06\/03\/aaron-ness-retirement-hershey-bears-ahl\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">retired at the beginning of June<\/a>. Longtime Capital <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/player\/sonny-milano\/\" class=\"player\" title=\"View Sonny Milano&#039;s stats, bio, and status\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sonny Milano<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/2026\/04\/29\/sonny-milano-signs-one-year-contract-sc-bern-switzerland-capitals\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">signed with SC Bern of the Swiss National League<\/a> after finishing the season in Hershey while <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/2026\/06\/23\/jordan-kyrou-trade-washington-capitals-connor-mcmichael-st-louis-blues\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Milton G\u00e4strin was dealt to the St. Louis Blues as part of the Jordan Kyrou trade on June 23<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Goaltender <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/player\/garin-bjorklund\/\" class=\"player\" title=\"View Garin Bjorklund&#039;s stats, bio, and status\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Garin Bjorklund<\/a> is also unlikely to return after <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/2026\/06\/29\/washington-capitals-qualifying-offers-free-agents-nhl\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">not receiving a qualifying offer from the Capitals<\/a> on June 29.
