(KPTV) &#8211; The World Cup knockout stage arrives Monday night when the United States meets Belgium in the Round of 16, with a quarterfinal berth on the line. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. local time, but in Seattle the buildup was already loud Sunday as fans from both countries filled the streets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThe U.S. is gonna win,\u201d one American supporter said. Asked how confident, she added: \u201cVery confident.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Another U.S. fan dismissed Belgium\u2019s chances, saying, \u201cBelgium had their golden generation \u2014 that golden generation is gone, they\u2019re done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Belgian fans pushed back, predicting goals and a trip to the next round. \u201cWe are gonna win, woo!\u201d one supporter said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Another forecast a high-scoring game: \u201cI think it\u2019s gonna be a game with a lot of goals, and I think it\u2019s gonna be 4-2 for Belgium.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The banter stayed mostly playful. \u201cGet ready for you to go back to your waffles,\u201d one U.S. fan joked. \u201cSorry, Belgium.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Beyond the predictions, fans on both sides said the World Cup atmosphere is the point. \u201cIt\u2019s been really cool to just see people bonding over soccer,\u201d one fan said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Another Belgian supporter offered a reminder heading into Monday\u2019s match: \u201cAt the end of the day, this is a game, and football is supposed to bring nations all together \u2014 so let\u2019s make sure we keep that spirit when we are together tomorrow night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 KPTV-KPDX.
