Rob Reiner\u2019s\u00a0<\/a>final on-screen appearance in Larry David\u2019s latest HBO comedy provoked online criticism.<\/p>\n

A once vocal critic of the current administration, the late director\u2019s surprise cameo in \u201cLife, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America,\u201d was considered Reiner\u2019s \u201clast laugh\u201d against\u00a0President Donald Trump, director Jeff Schaffer told Variety.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s coming out on Fourth of July weekend, and if it in any way spoils a sad octogenarian\u2019s weekend, then oh well,\u201d Schaffer\u00a0told the outlet.<\/a><\/p>\n

Social media users quickly criticized the posthumous cameo and its political framing nearly six months after Rob and wife Michele Reiner were found dead inside their Brentwood home.<\/p>\n

\u201cPretty sure Reiner would have preferred to be alive instead of getting the \u2018last laugh\u2019 here,\u201d one user wrote, while another quipped: \u201cI\u2019m going to go ahead and say that he definitively did not get the last laugh.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSorry but if your son stabs you and your wife to death there are no \u2018last laughs,’\u201d another user wrote. \u201cThat\u2019s basically as bad a thing as could possibly happen. I know we\u2019re 11 years into this now and you haven\u2019t figured it out yet but you really don\u2019t need to do this stuff anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another X user noted, \u201cThe man and his wife were murdered by their son. He spent his last years on our planet obsessing over Trump and believing every media lie he was told. There isn\u2019t a last laugh to be had. It was a tragic end.\u201d<\/p>\n

While portraying George Washington in the historical comedy, Reiner declares he will not seek a third term in office and proposes Congress pursue a constitutional amendment prohibiting presidential power.<\/p>\n

David, dressed in colonial attire, asked, \u201cWell, what if there\u2019s some a\u2014\u2014 in office, some narcissistic p\u2014- who doesn\u2019t follow the Constitution?\u201d<\/p>\n

Reiner stressed the importance of a peaceful transfer of power before David interjects, \u201cHe could use the presidency to enrich himself and his family. He could send troops into American cities to terrorize and even kill American citizens, all to distract from the fact that he\u2019s friends with a pedophile!\u201d<\/p>\n

Fellow Trump antagonist\u00a0Jimmy Kimmel\u00a0<\/a>made a surprise appearance and offered, \u201cAre you suggesting that the president would taketh the time to challenge anyone who dare make fun of him? As if he were a big baby?\u201d<\/p>\n

As the colonists argue among themselves, Reiner notes, \u201cWe\u2019re f\u2014ed\u201d before an In Memoriam card honored the late \u201cPrincess Bride\u201d director.<\/p>\n

The sketch was reportedly filmed on Nov. 13, nearly one month before Reiner\u2019s son, Nick Reiner, <\/a>allegedly killed his parents.<\/p>\n

Los Angeles Fire Department\u00a0officials\u00a0responded to a Brentwood-area home at around 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 14, where\u00a0two bodies were discovered.<\/a> Officials later confirmed the bodies to be of Rob and his wife, Michele.<\/p>\n

Nick quickly became a person of interest and was\u00a0taken into custody the night\u00a0of Dec. 14. He was formally charged two days later with two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders.<\/p>\n

Nick pleaded not guilty<\/a>\u00a0during his Feb. 23 arraignment. A spokesperson for the Reiner family told Fox News Digital, \u201cThey have the utmost trust in the legal process and will not comment further on matters related to the legal proceedings.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month, Nick demanded access to his $1.5 million trust fund after he was allegedly blocked from a massive payout that would have funded his decision to hire top-notch celebrity attorney Alan Jackson.<\/p>\n

According to court documents obtained by Fox News Digital, the trustees\u2019 alleged refusal to release money forced Nick into using a court-appointed public defender despite Jackson\u2019s firm already devoting substantial resources to his defense.<\/p>\n

Nick is facing a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty after being charged with two counts of first-degree murder.<\/p>\n
