BUENOS AIRES, July 6 (Reuters) – Argentine Economy Minister Luis Caputo said on \u200cMonday that the country plans to \u200crefinance existing debt at lowest possible rates. <\/p>\n
He made \u200bthe remarks during a press conference on how the country will meet its debt payments through 2027. <\/p>\n
Argentina faces a foreign-currency debt \u200ctest in \u20602027 – the year President Javier Milei has said he will seek \u2060re-election – with over $23 billion in foreign-currency principal payments due, or more than $32 billion \u200bincluding interest, \u200baccording to International \u200bMonetary Fund figures. <\/p>\n
Caputo \u200csaid that getting Argentina to “investment grade,” a credit rating that indicates a bond issuer as a low risk of default, will be a priority. <\/p>\n
Argentine debt remains firmly \u200crated in junk territory \u200beven after recent sovereign \u200bcredit rating \u200bupgrades from S&P and Fitch. <\/p>\n
Moody’s, \u200cwhich upgraded Argentina a \u200byear ago \u200band gave it a stable outlook, has become more optimistic about the country’s \u200bability to \u200cget through the 2027 payments. <\/p>\n
