Jordan Henderson is set to play no further part in the World Cup as he needs surgery on the freak wrist injury he suffered in England\u2019s last 16 victory over Mexico.<\/p>\n
The Brentford midfielder landed awkwardly as he slipped while climbing over the advertising hoardings during the celebrations after the thrilling 3-2 win at the Azteca Stadium.<\/p>\n
After leaving the field on a stretcher and receiving oxygen, Henderson was taken to hospital in Mexico City and did not travel back to England\u2019s training base in Kansas City with the rest of Thomas Tuchel\u2019s squad. A member of England\u2019s medical staff stayed behind with him.<\/p>\n
It is a significant blow for the 36-year-old former Liverpool captain, who was an unused substitute against Mexico.<\/p>\n
He earned his 90th cap for England when he came off the bench against Panama in the group stage \u2014 his only appearance of the tournament so far.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m sad because Jordan injured his wrist,\u201d England manager Tuchel told reporters post-match.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s quite serious. He\u2019s in hospital. It doesn\u2019t fit with the rest of the evening. I don\u2019t know the procedure.\u201d<\/p>\n
England midfielder Jude Bellingham, who scored twice to help set up a quarter-final meeting with Norway, added: \u201cHe (Henderson) is in a bit of bother, but our medical team have everything under control. I\u2019m not best to give too much detail as I do not know much going on, but everyone was there to support him.\u201d<\/p>\n
