A December 2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gdbiw.com\/press-media\/third-party-analysis-shows-the-breadth-of-biws-impact-on-maine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">BIW press release<\/a> said a commissioned study found the shipyard represented 17% of Maine\u2019s \u201cproduction GDP\u201d in 2021. The release did not describe BIW as 17% of the entire state economy.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gdbiw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/GDBIW-2024-Economic-Impact-Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">November 2024 report<\/a> estimates BIW\u2019s 2023 statewide impact at $2.55 billion in economic output. That includes direct shipyard activity, supplier spending and employee spending.<\/p>\n<p>Output is not GDP because it includes intermediate purchases, such as parts and services bought from other firms, which GDP excludes to avoid double-counting.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 2024 report puts BIW\u2019s total value added, the measure comparable to GDP, at $1.28 billion.
