{"id":747314,"date":"2026-07-06T22:45:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-06T22:45:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/747314\/"},"modified":"2026-07-06T22:45:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T22:45:09","slug":"johnny-galecki-returns-to-acting-as-tennessee-williams-in-kowalski","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/747314\/","title":{"rendered":"Johnny Galecki Returns to Acting as Tennessee Williams in &#8216;Kowalski&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAfter taking a seven-year break from acting, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/the-big-bang-theory\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-big-bang-theory\" data-tag=\"the-big-bang-theory\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Big Bang Theory<\/a>\u201d star <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/johnny-galecki\/\" id=\"auto-tag_johnny-galecki\" data-tag=\"johnny-galecki\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Johnny Galecki<\/a> is set to portray renowned playwright Tennessee Williams  in the Chicago stage presentation of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/kowalski\/\" id=\"auto-tag_kowalski\" data-tag=\"kowalski\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kowalski<\/a>,\u201d Variety has learned exclusively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tColin Hanlon (\u201cModern Family\u201d) is directing the new play written by Gregg Ostrin for Chicago\u2019s Lookingglass Theatre Company, with performances running Sept. 19-Oct. 25.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe story takes place in 1947 Provincetown and, according to an official plot synopsis, imagines the \u201celectrifying\u201d first meeting between Williams and Marlon Brando that led to \u201cA Streetcar Named Desire\u201d (1951); that award-winning film earned Brando his first of many Oscar nominations, as well as his reputation for deeply committed method acting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn a statement, Galecki explained what drew him back to the stage: \u201cThe planets aligned. Gregg\u2019s writing, Colin\u2019s vision, and the feeling that after seven years of quietly observing life, I finally had something new to bring back to the work. Add to that the privilege of portraying one of my artistic heroes, and it became impossible to say no.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cAt its heart,\u00a0\u2018Kowalski\u2019\u00a0is about the collision of extraordinary talents and the lasting impact those encounters can have on art and culture,\u201d Ostrin added in his own statement. \u201cTennessee Williams and Marlon Brando helped redefine American theater, and it has been thrilling to see audiences connect with this story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tGalecki was previously in the Tony Award-nominated Broadway play \u201cThe Little Dog Laughed.\u201d Before becoming known for his Emmy-nominated work as Leonard Hofstadter in \u201cThe Big Bang Theory,\u201d he starred in multiple seasons of \u201cRoseanne\u201d ranging from 1992-2018.
