said his uncle, Jean Agenor, to On3. “We had our meeting last week.”

Agenor went in depth on what Gabriel Georges likes about each program, specifically pointing out that Gabriel Georges could be a legend at Tennessee while helping the Vols achieve the best three years in program history.

On the other hand, Ohio State will be still Ohio State with or without Gabriel Georges.

Tennessee, however, could reach new heights with Gabriel Georges on the roster.

“Ohio State doesn’t need David,” said Agenor. “Ohio State can go in the portal and get a couple of good running backs. They’ll probably try and flip someone else if David doesn’t go there. Ohio State will always have pieces. I feel like at a school like Tennessee, and I’m not saying he’s going to Tennessee, David will be the main guy and they’ll bring other backs so he doesn’t have to run the ball 300 times a year.”

Agenor also said that he feels like his nephew could go anywhere — even James Madison — and be an elite player.

Those comments seem encouraging for Tennessee, but that’s not the big clue that I think hints at where Gabriel Georges will land.

One big clue hints at which school will land David Gabriel Georges

Agenor noted that the family has the best position coach relationship with Buckeyes running backs coach Carlos Locklyn.

But he feels like the best overall relationships are at Tennessee.

“Tennessee, it’s different,” said Agenor. “That’s where we have the best relationships overall. We might have the best position coach relationship with Coach Lock, been around him a long time, but I think overall when it comes to a staff the best relationships are with Tennessee.”

The biggest things working in Ohio State’s favor are the fact that it’s Ohio State, the relationship with Locklyn, and that Agenor grew up rooting for the Buckeyes.

And I don’t think any of those things are going to sway this battle in Ohio State’s favor.

Agenor’s comments clearly indicate that Ohio State doesn’t need Gabriel Georges, and it doesn’t sound like Gabriel Georges needs Ohio State.

I also don’t think he’s trying to push his nephew toward his favorite school.

Most importantly, I don’t think the relationship with Locklyn will be the driving factor in the decision. I think the overall relationships — specifically with the head coaches — are much more important.

And here’s why: Will Carlos Locklyn even be at Ohio State beyond 2026? Will he be there in 2027, 2028, and/or 2029?

Locklyn has been in coaching since 2009. He’s never stayed at a school for more than three seasons (2026 will be his third season at Ohio State). History suggests he won’t be in Columbus for Gabriel Georges’ entire career (he may not be there for any of it if he leaves after the 2026 season).

Eventually, an NFL team is probably going to give Locklyn a shot, or he’s going to get an opportunity to be an offensive coordinator, or maybe even a head coach, at another school.

The Gabriel Georges family has been incredibly thorough — they understand the business. They know position coaches don’t usually stick around for long. That’s why I think the relationship with Locklyn isn’t nearly as important as Ohio State fans think it is. And it’s a big part of the reason why I think Gabriel Georges ultimately ends up landing at Tennessee.
