(WMC) &#8211; Hernandez Govan, the man acquitted of being the mastermind behind the murder of Memphis rapper Young Dolph, is pleading not guilty to his charge of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnews5.com\/2026\/06\/17\/newly-unsealed-docs-detail-cyberstalking-allegations-against-hernandez-govan\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.actionnews5.com\/2026\/06\/17\/newly-unsealed-docs-detail-cyberstalking-allegations-against-hernandez-govan\/\" target=\"_blank\">cyberstalking.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Memphis Police arrested Govan on June 11 on state stalking and harassment charges, a misdemeanor. He was released the next day on a $4,000 bond.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Twelve hours later, federal authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnews5.com\/2026\/06\/17\/newly-unsealed-docs-detail-cyberstalking-allegations-against-hernandez-govan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.actionnews5.com\/2026\/06\/17\/newly-unsealed-docs-detail-cyberstalking-allegations-against-hernandez-govan\/\">arrested him on the same charges<\/a>, which carry a five-year prison sentence in the federal system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">His attorney, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnews5.com\/2026\/06\/19\/govan-attorney-calls-timing-federal-charges-highly-suspicious-after-client-beat-murder-rap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.actionnews5.com\/2026\/06\/19\/govan-attorney-calls-timing-federal-charges-highly-suspicious-after-client-beat-murder-rap\/\">Claiborne Ferguson, called the timing of the federal charges \u201chighly suspicious\u201d<\/a> following Govan\u2019s acquittal in the Young Dolph case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Ferguson says this is not the type of case that is usually seen in federal court, and that the case is being treated differently because of his past connection to the Young Dolph case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cDefinitely not the type of case that seems like it would be in high public regard, normally,\u201d he said Monday following the plea. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Govan is currently being held without bond, something Ferguson is asking the judge to change so his client can be out of jail.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cHe has confidence in the system,\u201d Ferguson said. \u201cHe thinks that at the end of the day, his name will be exonerated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">He says the case is not complicated and that it simply involves someone borrowing money from Govan and not using it for the agreed-upon reason.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnews5.com\/newsletter\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.actionnews5.com\/newsletter\/\">Click here<\/a> to sign up for our newsletter!<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSfpc96d0EDHinF_AovDBi4RNoKbBfRbCIJiTWqF7p1VNE6ZNA\/viewform\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Click here<\/a> to report a spelling or grammar error.
