LONDON (AP) \u2014 Sure, Naomi Osaka is a four-time Grand Slam champion who also impresses with her fashionable outfits<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, she sounded like the rest of us. The plantar fasciitis was acting up. She\u2019s working too much.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just getting old,\u201d Osaka said.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old Osaka\u2019s Wimbledon<\/a> run and fashion show ended in a 7-6 (4), 6-4 loss to Karolina Muchova in the quarterfinals of the grass-court Grand Slam.<\/p>\n

Osaka, a former No. 1 player, had ousted top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka in the fourth round \u2014 with arguably some of her best tennis since returning from maternity leave \u2014 but couldn\u2019t find her rhythm Tuesday against her Czech opponent.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard because I played so well in my last match, then today I just feel like I didn\u2019t play well at all and I didn\u2019t have any energy,\u201d said Osaka, who despite the loss still had her best result at the All England Club by reaching the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n

\u201cI could feel it coming because I\u2019ve played way more matches than I usually do before a Slam,\u201d she added. \u201cI just wanted to try that to see the rhythm, you know? Obviously it worked out well. But I think I probably won\u2019t do that again. But yeah, I would say it was like an accumulation of playing two weeks straight without a day off.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a Wimbledon warmup tournament in Bad Homburg, Germany, Osaka had retired from the final \u2014 against Muchova \u2014 because of a foot injury<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Japanese player \u2014 who took mental-health breaks starting in 2021 and was away from the tour while having a daughter \u2014 was asked Tuesday if she has an ankle issue. No, she responded before joking about \u201cgetting old.\u201d She did say, however, that she has \u201cplantar fasciitis on my feet. Well, that\u2019s what we assume it is.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt kind of started happening off-season last year,\u201d Osaka added. \u201cI feel like maybe it\u2019s because I\u2019m a lot more springy on my toes. I think it reactivated on grass court because I\u2019m pushing off a lot more to go forward. I don\u2019t think it will bother me on hard court. I\u2019m thinking it was maybe just the surface change.\u201d<\/p>\n

Osaka has won two of her four major titles (2018 and \u201920) at the U.S. Open, and she made it back to the semifinals at Flushing Meadows last year, losing to Amanda Anisimova<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like in my head I think there\u2019s still an opportunity to win a Slam,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
