The Detroit Pistons are adding more experience and defensive help as they’re reportedly finalizing a one-year deal with 6-foot-5 wing Javonte Green.

The 32-year-old is coming off his sixth season in the NBA, averaging 5.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and one steal per game across 68 appearances split between the New Orleans Pelicans and Cleveland Cavaliers.

After going undrafted in 2015 out of Radford, Green went abroad spending time in Spain, Italy and Germany before getting a 2019 invite to NBA Summer League with the Boston Celtics.

His performance at Summer League earned him a two-year contract with a partially guaranteed salary for the first season.

Green spent two seasons with the Celtics before being traded to the Chicago Bulls and contributed to parts of four seasons ahead of signing as a free agent with the Pelicans in 2024.

His best stretch of play came in the nine games he played for the Bulls in 2023-2024 season after signing a 10-day contract down the stretch. Green averaged a career-best 12.2 points and 7.4 rebounds, shooting 60% from the field.

While a career 51% shooter, it’s Green’s defensive energy and versatility that likely attracted the Pistons to adding him for the upcoming season.

Green joins a deep group of wings that includes Ron Holland II, Jaden Ivey, Chaz Lanier, Duncan Robinson, Ausar Thompson and Caris LeVert.

His addition also means the Pistons have 14 players set for their 2024-2025 roster, along with their three two-way players.

Current roster:

Guard: Cade Cunningham, Caris LeVert, Chaz Lanier, Jaden Ivey, Marcus Sasser

Forward: Tobias Harris, Ron Holland II, Bobi Klintman, Paul Reed, Duncan Robinson, Ausar Thompson, Javonte Green

Center: Jalen Duren, Isaiah Stewart

Two-way: Daniss Jenkins, Tolu Smith, Colby Jones
