{"id":750292,"date":"2026-07-08T10:24:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-08T10:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/750292\/"},"modified":"2026-07-08T10:24:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-08T10:24:09","slug":"july-7-2026-manhattan-high-rise-at-risk-of-partial-collapse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/750292\/","title":{"rendered":"July 7, 2026 &#8211; Manhattan high-rise at risk of partial collapse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmrb5go3q000l3b67yg5blhi4@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The owner and developer of a midtown Manhattan building that was evacuated Tuesday for reports of structural buckling are being sued by a construction worker who suffered a \u201cgrave injury\u201d at the site last year, according to court records.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmrb5jdiw000n3b67uefkaxg1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            On September 30, 2025, Wilmer Cabrera Rojas was working at the 42nd Street building when he fell after wood he was standing on \u201cgave way,\u201d causing him \u201cserious and permanent injures,\u201d according to a civil suit filed in New York State court.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmrb5mwya000q3b67utxj7q1p@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Rojas filed the suit in November, which is still active.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmrb5ljak000o3b67ecczdnmn@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The suit was brought against Metro Loft, the building\u2019s developer, and 235 Fee Owner LLC, the site owner, among multiple defendants, including limited liability companies. 235 Fee Owner was also the subject of an anonymous complaint that the New York City Department of Buildings investigated, accusing the company of performing construction contrary to previously approved plans.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmrb5m4la000p3b67l2mvj0an@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Attorneys for the buildings defendants have denied the allegations in court filings and any liability for the accident, and have filed a third-party complaint against the construction company that employed Rojas.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmrb5o70a000r3b67xxin8qlb@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            An attorney representing the construction company has also denied the defendants\u2019 allegations and could not be reached for comment Tuesday.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmrb5r38a000s3b672u3ow24h@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Lawyers for the defendants filed a motion to dismiss Roja\u2019s case on Monday, citing the plaintiff\u2019s failure to comply with discovery demands.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmrb8pq9y00003b6rc3oviuyk@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Correction: An earlier version of this story inaccurately characterized the New York City Department of Buildings\u2019 involvement with a complaint.
