{"id":752227,"date":"2026-07-09T08:48:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-09T08:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/752227\/"},"modified":"2026-07-09T08:48:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T08:48:08","slug":"astrazeneca-stock-dives-9-after-heart-drug-trial-misses-target","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/752227\/","title":{"rendered":"AstraZeneca stock dives 9% after heart drug trial misses target"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Shares of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/AZN\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AstraZeneca<\/a> fell as much as 9% after a late-stage clinical trial for a heart disease failed to meet its target. <\/p>\n<p>The medicine, Wainua, did <a href=\"https:\/\/www.astrazeneca.com\/media-centre\/press-releases\/2026\/update-cardio-ttransform-phase-iii-trial.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">not reach its main goal<\/a> of reducing deaths and recurrent heart-related emergencies over 140 weeks compared to a placebo, the British drugmaker said in a press release early Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The treatment is for a rare, life-threatening heart condition called transthyretin-mediated amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM).<\/p>\n<p>A Jefferies analyst said the result didn&#8217;t jeopardise the company&#8217;s $80 billion sales target by 2030 but noted that AstraZeneca &#8220;had been very confident around the primary endpoint and the ability to hit in combination use.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The study examined a specific type of the condition in which misfolded proteins build up in the heart muscle. It&#8217;s estimated that about half a million people live with the condition. <\/p>\n<p>The stock was last seen down 8.9% in London, on track for its worst day since March 2020 at the start of the Covid-19 outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>This is breaking news.
