{"id":754351,"date":"2026-07-10T09:12:12","date_gmt":"2026-07-10T09:12:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/754351\/"},"modified":"2026-07-10T09:12:12","modified_gmt":"2026-07-10T09:12:12","slug":"celtics-part-ways-with-6-foot-8-canadian-point-guard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/754351\/","title":{"rendered":"Celtics Part Ways with 6-Foot-8 Canadian Point Guard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dalano Banton never really got his chance with the <a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/boston-celtics\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Boston Celtics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the Celtics officially waived the intriguing 6-foot-8 point guard from Canada.<\/p>\n<p>They announced the move themselves on social media:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">We have waived Dalano Banton.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Boston Celtics (@celtics) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/celtics\/status\/2075332394014618083?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">July 9, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The move leaves the Celtics with 14 players under contract, so they can take a step toward adding someone new if they want.<\/p>\n<p>Banton will turn 27 in November and is formerly the No. 46 overall pick in 2021 by the Toronto Raptors out of Nebraska.<\/p>\n<p>He actually attended two high schools in Massachusetts along his developmental journey.<\/p>\n<p>MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nesn.com\/boston-celtics\/news\/celtics-2025-draft-pick-rumored-grow-7-foot-2-fact-checking-exciting-news\/ad7af11fef36045c52d95118\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Celtics&#8217; draft pick rumored to have grown to 7-foot-2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the NBA, he has played for the Raptors, Celtics, Trail Blazers, Clippers and Celtics again.<\/p>\n<p>Banton got 24 games with Boston in his first stint (2023-24) but just four games this time around.<\/p>\n<p>In the four games in 2025-26, Banton scored a total of 6 points and dished out 10 assists.<\/p>\n<p>His skillset has always been a bit intriguing, but his career 30.3% from beyond the 3-point arc limits his utility in the modern NBA.<\/p>\n<p>Given the way Banton has bounced around and the length he has for a point guard, he&#8217;ll probably get another contract.<\/p>\n<p>Shoot, at this rate, he may even come back to the Celtics eventually.<\/p>\n<p>For now, though, they&#8217;ve parted ways.<\/p>\n<p>More Celtics<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Dalano Banton never really got his chance with the Boston Celtics.
