\n\tChristopher Nolan<\/a> has dedicated \u201cThe Odyssey<\/a>\u201d to David Keighley<\/a>, Imax<\/a>\u2019s first chief quality officer and a pioneer of large-format cinema, who died after a battle with cancer\u00a0last year.<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\tNolan announced the news during the London premiere of the film at the BFI Imax Theater. As he introduced the screening, he said, \u201cThis was the first place I ever met David, in this theater, and we embarked on a more than 20-year journey. I confessed to him my secret desire to shoot Hollywood films on Imax, and he very gently and very skillfully brought me along and helped out.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOver the years, Nolan shot many of his films on Imax. \u201cBatman Begins\u201d was optimized for Imax, and he began using Imax cameras for \u201cThe Dark Knight.\u201d He also shot \u201cDunkirk,\u201d \u201cTenet\u201d and \u201cOppenheimer\u201d using the large premium format, but \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d is the first film shot entirely with Imax cameras.<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\tNolan said, \u201cDavid passed sadly right after we finished critical photography on this film, and after we finished his very important work of printing all our days and approving all of the photography. So I\u2019m thrilled that he was able to finish that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn an Instagram post<\/a>, Geoff Keighley, David\u2019s son, shared the video and wrote, \u201cWhen Dad learned he had terminal cancer in January 2026, he was just days away from starting principal photography on \u2018The Odyssey,\u2019 which he believed would be \u2018the most important movie ever made\u2019 in his 53-year career at Imax. \u2018The Odyssey\u2019 is the fulfillment of his lifelong dream. Imax began in the 1970s making documentaries about space, animals, and the wonders of the world, but my Mom and Dad always dreamed that one day, a major Hollywood epic would be made entirely with Imax cameras \u2014 \u2018our \u201cLawrence of Arabia,\u201d\u2018 as he liked to say.\u201d He continued, \u201cWhen we, as a family, met with his doctors, my Dad was clear on the goal that would define the rest of his life: \u2018Please keep me alive long enough to finish production of \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d for Chris.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNolan stated, \u201cDavid passed sadly right after we finished principal photography on this film.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGeoff Keighley concluded by writing, \u201cAs my Dad grew weaker, he never wavered in his commitment to Chris and his wife\/producing partner Emma Thomas. And you know what? He did it. Like Odysseus, my Dad made it home \u2014 he finished principal photography of the film.\u201d<\/p>\n
