{"id":755769,"date":"2026-07-11T01:43:14","date_gmt":"2026-07-11T01:43:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/755769\/"},"modified":"2026-07-11T01:43:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-11T01:43:14","slug":"meta-removes-ai-muse-image-feature-after-backlash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/755769\/","title":{"rendered":"Meta Removes AI Muse Image Feature After Backlash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tDays after rolling out its <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/muse-image\/\" id=\"auto-tag_muse-image\" data-tag=\"muse-image\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Muse Image<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/ai\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ai\" data-tag=\"ai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI<\/a> feature on social media, <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/meta\/\" id=\"auto-tag_meta\" data-tag=\"meta\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Meta<\/a> has heard the overwhelming backlash from users.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tOn Friday, the tech behemoth announced that the feature is \u201cno longer available\u201d on <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/instagram\/\" id=\"auto-tag_instagram\" data-tag=\"instagram\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram<\/a>, admitting they \u201cmissed the mark\u201d amid privacy concerns and the automatic opt-in for users.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cEarlier this week, we announced that one way for people to generate images in <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/meta-ai\/\" id=\"auto-tag_meta-ai\" data-tag=\"meta-ai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Meta AI<\/a> is by @-mentioning public Instagram accounts that they want to reference,\u201d the company said in an <a href=\"https:\/\/about.fb.com\/news\/2026\/07\/introducing-muse-image-meta-ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">update<\/a>. \u201cOur intent was to provide a useful creative tool and to give people control over whether their public content could be referenced in this way. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tMeta added, \u201cWe\u2019ve heard the feedback that this feature missed the mark, so it\u2019s no longer available.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAt its core, a Muse user just needed to tag a public or unprotected IG feed, and it instantly becomes meat for the AI generator to create its own images or \u201cremixes,\u201d as they are sometimes called, after which the images are available online permanently.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tFriday\u2019s announcement comes after Creative Artists Agency (CAA) <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/07\/caa-slams-meta-muse-image-ai-1236978047\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">called for Meta to implement guardrails<\/a> for Muse, despite the agency rolling out its own AI Vault program to archive its members\u2019 likenesses forever.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cArtists deserve to decide if and how their likeness and work is used, with consent and the ability to set their own terms,\u201d a CAA spokesperson said in a statement. \u201cThis means letting creators impose restrictions, monitor usage, and prevent unauthorized endorsements or exploitation. Responsible AI requires clear disclosures and swift removal of unauthorized content. There must be easy ways to spot, track, and take down misuse, and it should be clear when something is AI-generated. CAA believes in the power of new technology, but not at the cost of individuals\u2019 rights or livelihoods. The future of creativity depends on respecting the ownership and autonomy of those who make it possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tMeanwhile, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/07\/sag-aftra-recommends-members-opt-out-meta-ai-feature-1236979025\/\">shared instructions<\/a> on how to \u201cdig into [Instagram\u2019s] settings\u201d to opt-out of the Muse Image tool. \u201cTake action to protect your likeness,\u201d the union wrote in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tMeta previously downplayed the privacy concerns in a response to backlash. \u201cWe built Muse Image with strong controls and safety guardrails from day one. Private accounts and those belonging to users under 18 are automatically excluded and adult users with public accounts can opt-out with just a couple clicks. We will take action against any content that violates our Community Standards,\u201d the company behind Facebook, Instagram and Threads said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe use of AI in Hollywood continues to be a hot-button topic in recent years.
