When Trey Stewart and Mawot Mag were given greater roles midway through the 2024-25 season, it marked a turning point for BYU, as the Cougars subsequently caught fire and reached the Sweet 16 for the third time in program history.<\/p>\n

Now, the two valuable \u201c3-and-D\u201d specialists who helped save BYU\u2019s season are headed overseas to begin their professional careers.<\/p>\n

Stewart has signed with SBB Basketba Wolmirtedt in Germany, while Mag will join the Cairns Taipans in his native Australia, according to a Monday press release from BYU<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With Stewart and Mag\u2019s signings, all four of the Cougars\u2019 2024-25 seniors have reached the professional ranks, as Fousseyni Traore is playing in France<\/a> and Trevin Knell is part of USA Basketball\u2019s 3×3 operation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Additionally, BYU\u2019s freshman phenom Egor Demin was selected No. 8 overall by the Brooklyn Nets<\/a> in June\u2019s NBA Draft.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thrilled to see five of our players from last year\u2019s squad start their professional playing careers all across the world,\u201d BYU coach Kevin Young said in a statement<\/a>. \u201cEgor, Trey, Fouss, Trevin, and Mawot all embody everything we are about. Each one of them embraced our player development program and style of play and put the necessary work in to be in position to play professionally. I am so proud of each one of them and look forward to following their careers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stewart appeared in 93 games across four seasons for the Cougars, playing sparingly for most of his career before becoming a crucial rotation player down the stretch as a senior. <\/p>\n

He averaged just under 13 minutes per game in BYU\u2019s 11-2 run over its final 13 contests, playing timely defense and hitting clutch shots in victories at West Virginia, Iowa State and in the NCAA Tournament against Wisconsin.<\/p>\n

Mag, who came to Provo following four years at Rutgers, started 22 games in his lone campaign with the Cougars, averaging 5.9 points per contest and shooting 39.7% from 3-point range while also serving as arguably BYU\u2019s best defender.<\/p>\n

As noted by BYU Sports Information, there are now 14 former Cougars playing professional basketball across the world, including Yoeli Childs<\/a> (Japan), Spencer Johnson<\/a> (England) and Rudi Williams<\/a> (Canada).<\/p>\n
