They<br \/>\ndestroyed the school and the village,\u201d Khanna said, adding that \u201cthese hoodlums<br \/>\ncome in with machine guns and block off the road.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Cameron Kasky, one of Khanna&#8217;s aides who was part of the<br \/>\ndelegation, said the group was held for more than an hour and appealed to the US<br \/>\nEmbassy in Jerusalem for assistance, adding that a group of officers who<br \/>\nappeared to be police eventually intervened, leading to their release. <\/p>\n<p>The Israeli military responded that soldiers and police came<br \/>\nafter receiving reports that Israeli <a href=\"https:\/\/shafaq.com\/en\/Middle-East\/Israeli-strike-kills-three-in-Gaza-settlers-attack-West-Bank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">settlers<\/a> were blocking vehicles near<br \/>\nKhirbet Zanuta, a small Palestinian village whose residents were forcibly<br \/>\ndisplaced following settler attacks after Hamas&#8217; October 2023 attack on Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Khanna is the second Democratic politician considered a<br \/>\npotential 2028 presidential candidate to visit the region this week. On<br \/>\nWednesday, former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel said in Tel Aviv that<br \/>\nIsraeli policies toward Palestinians were undermining support for the US-Israel<br \/>\nalliance.<\/p>\n<p>Israel&#8217;s policies toward Palestinians have become an<br \/>\nincreasingly divisive issue within the Democratic Party ahead of the US midterm<br \/>\nelections in November.
