Project RattleCam                                                                                                                When are rattlesnakes active in California?<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/Internet\/FSE_DOCUMENTS\/stelprdb5393596.pdf\">Snakes are most active<\/a> from April to October, according to the U.S. Forest Service.<\/p>\n<p>California is home to<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/wildlife.ca.gov\/Conservation\/Reptiles\/Rattlesnake\"> seven species of rattlesnake<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The most common is the<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/nrm.dfg.ca.gov\/FileHandler.ashx?DocumentID=2803&amp;inline\"> western rattlesnake<\/a>, which can be found from sea level to elevations of 7,000 feet, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.<\/p>\n<p>Rattlesnakes can be recognized by the distinct sound their rattles make.
