Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Sunday closed the
\nStrait of Hormuz until further notice after intercepting a vessel it accused of
\nviolating its navigation directives.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the IRGC claimed several vessels had attempted to transit
\nthe strategic waterway through what it described as “unapproved routes
\ndespite repeated warnings.\u201d It said warning shots were fired before one
\nvessel was intercepted after it allegedly switched off its tracking system.<\/p>\n
The IRGC blamed “illegal foreign intervention” for the incident
\nand declared that no vessel would be allowed to pass through the Strait of
\nHormuz until “US interventions” in the region end.<\/p>\n
The force also warned that any new military action against Iran in
\nconnection with the incident would trigger a “severe” response,
\nthreatening to target additional US and allied military bases across the
\nregion.<\/p>\n
The escalation began earlier this week after attacks on After
\ncommercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz prompted US strikes on military
\nsites along Iran’s coastline. Iran responded by launching missile and drone
\nattacks on US military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait. Washington then
\ncarried out a second consecutive night of strikes on Iranian territory,
\nprompting Tehran to launch another round of retaliatory attacks<\/a> on July 9.<\/p>\n
\nUS President Donald Trump declared the June 17 Islamabad memorandum of
\nunderstanding (MoU) “over<\/a>,” Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused<\/a>
\nWashington of violating the agreement by imposing new sanctions and deploying
