Mick Jagger says fans don\u2019t come to concerts to hear a political lecture in the wake of Bruce Springsteen\u2019s on-stage speeches targeting President Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Rolling Stones frontman weighed in during an interview on The New York Times\u2019 podcast<\/a> Saturday after host David Marchese questioned him about Springsteen, who has repeatedly criticized President Trump during his latest tour. <\/p>\n

Marchese said Springsteen \u201cclearly sees his job as engaging in a meaningful back and forth\u201d with fans before asking Jagger, \u201cWhat does your relationship to the audience mean to you? What do they represent, all those people out there?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe bottom line of my thing really is that my job in the live music world is [for] those people that come is to have the best time they possibly can,\u201d Jagger said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor two hours or whatever it is, to forget all their problems and the problems of the world and their mortgages and whatever, just to give them the best time they can have.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jagger, 82, insisted live shows should offer fans an escape from the pressures of everyday life.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s similar to going to a sports event, really, because everything else is shouted out,\u201d he continued. \u201cYou\u2019re just watching who\u2019s going to win. You\u2019re not worrying about everything else.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t want to lecture them,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The \u201cPaint It Black\u201d rocker stressed that no two audiences are the same and performers should adjust to the crowd instead of expecting the same reaction everywhere they play.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour job is to make them have the best time they possibly can,\u201d Jagger said.<\/p>\n

The comments come after Springsteen has repeatedly blasted Trump during his concerts this year<\/a>, as part of the Boss\u2019 \u201cLand of Hope and Dreams American Tour.\u201d<\/p>\n

The New Jersey native also released a song referring to \u201cKing Trump\u201d and his \u201cfederal thugs\u201d<\/a> after the deaths of anti-ICE protesters Renee Good and Alex Pretti.<\/p>\n

Trump has fired back at Springsteen, calling him a \u201cdried up prune\u201d<\/a> in a Truth Social post and urging his supporters to boycott the singer\u2019s tour.<\/p>\n

Jagger explained he\u2019s not opposed to politics making their way into his music \u2014 he just prefers a lighter touch.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got into this habit of doing songs that are about personal relationships and then I throw a verse about politics in there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNobody wants to hear a whole song about politics,\u201d Jagger added.<\/p>\n

Despite his comments, the Rolling Stones singer did take a swipe at Republican Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry while performing at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in May 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re a welcoming crowd, aren\u2019t we?\u201d Jagger told the audience. \u201cI hope Mr. Landry is enjoying the show. He\u2019s real inclusive you know. He\u2019s trying to take us back to the Stone Age.\u201d<\/p>\n

Landry fired back on X: \u201cYou can\u2019t always get what you want. The only person who might remember the Stone Age is Mick Jagger.
