Although \u201cAgainst The Wind\u201d remains among his biggest hits, Seger later admitted he struggled writing part of the song.<\/p>\n<p>The title track of Seger\u2019s 11th studio album, Seger wrote \u201cAgainst The Wind\u201d by himself.\u00a0 \u201cAgainst The Wind\u201d says, \u201cAnd I remember what she said to me \/ How she swore that it never would end \/ I remember how she held me, oh, so tight \/ Wish I didn\u2019t know now what I didn\u2019t know then \/ Against the wind \/ We were running against the wind \/ We were young and strong \/ We were running against the wind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tVideos by American Songwriter\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Surprisingly, Seger was unsure about one of the key parts of the song.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe line \u2018Wish I didn\u2019t know now what I didn\u2019t know then\u2019 bothered me for the longest time,\u201d Seger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.songfacts.com\/facts\/bob-seger\/against-the-wind\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">concedes<\/a>. \u201cBut everyone I knew loved it so I left it in. It has since appeared in several hits by other artists, so I guess it\u2019s OK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>How Two Members of the Eagles Helped Bob Seger With \u201cAgainst the Wind\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tPlay video<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1783863370_69_hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Play\"\/><\/p>\n<p>When writing \u201cAgainst The Wind\u201d, Seger was so unsure of the line \u201cWish I didn\u2019t know now what I didn\u2019t know then\u201d that he reached out to two members of <a href=\"https:\/\/americansongwriter.com\/tag\/eagles\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eagles<\/a>, namely Glenn Frey and Don Henley, for advice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only thing that bothered me about that phrase was the grammar,\u201d Seger says. \u201cIt sounded grammatically funny to me. I kept asking myself, \u2018Is that correct grammar?\u2019 I liked the line, and everybody I played it for\u2014like Glenn\u00a0and Don\u2014was saying, \u2018That\u2019s the best line in the song.\u2019 But I couldn\u2019t shake the feeling that it wasn\u2019t right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I slowly came around,\u201d he continues. \u201cYou have to understand that songwriters can\u2019t punctuate anything they write. I work in such a narrow medium that I tend to second-guess things like that. As a matter of fact, I\u2019ve seen that line in a few other songs since I came up with it, so I guess it was okay after all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After Seger released \u201cAgainst The Wind\u201d, it was covered multiple times. Other artists who put their own spin on the song include Garth Brooks and The Highwaymen.
