This weekend, you might be participating in Pok\u00e9mon Go Fest, a celebration of all things\u2026 Well, Pok\u00e9mon Go! When you log in from July 11-12, you\u2019ll notice there\u2019s a six-part quest available that\u2019s built around Genetic Mastery in Pok\u00e9mon Go. It\u2019s a series of challenges offered by Professor Willow, and it\u2019s all centered around Mega-Evolved Mewtwo.<\/p>\n
Below, I\u2019ve outlined every task you need to complete to wrap up the Pok\u00e9mon Go Genetic Mastery Timed Research challenge as quickly as possible. It\u2019s a limited-time deal, so you\u2019ll need to move fast!<\/p>\n
All Go Fest 2026 Genetic Mastery Tasks and Rewards<\/p>\n
Here are all six parts of the Pok\u00e9mon Go Genetic Mastery line and what you need to do to unlock the maximum rewards.<\/p>\n
Step One<\/p>\n
Spin 5 Pok\u00e9Stops or Gyms (6 x Pinap Berry)<\/p>\n
Catch 10 Pok\u00e9mon (26 x Pok\u00e9 Ball)<\/p>\n
Make 3 Great Throws (6 x Nanab Berry)<\/p>\n
Step Two<\/p>\n
Power up Pok\u00e9mon 10 Times (1 x Fast TM)<\/p>\n
Use a Fast TM (1 x Charged TM)<\/p>\n
Use a Charged TM (3 x Hyper Potions)<\/p>\n
Step Three<\/p>\n
Catch 20 Different Species of Pok\u00e9mon (1 x Incubator)<\/p>\n
Hatch 2 Eggs (100 x Gengar Mega Energy)<\/p>\n
Mega Evolve a Pok\u00e9mon (1 x Star Piece)<\/p>\n
Step Four<\/p>\n
Step four is a little different, as it requires players to make a choice. You\u2019ll now need to make a decision that\u2019s based on one of the biggest talking points in the game this weekend:<\/p>\n
Mewtwo X vs Y in Pok\u00e9mon Go?<\/p>\n
You need to pick between these two evolutions. Here\u2019s a bit more information:<\/p>\n
Mega Mewtwo X: Psychic and Fighting power with massive physical capabilities<\/p>\n
Mega Mewtwo Y: Not as strong, but immense Psychic power<\/p>\n
Here are the challenges in this step to unlock the Mewtwo encounter:<\/p>\n
Catch 3 Psychic-Type Pok\u00e9mon (2026 x Stardust)<\/p>\n
Make 10 Curveball Throws (26 x Ultra Ball)<\/p>\n
Complete 6 Field Research Tasks (1 x Super Incubator)<\/p>\n

Step six is all about claiming the most important rewards from Pok\u00e9mon Go Fest\u2019s Genetic Mastery challenge:<\/p>\n

Mewtwo X vs Mewtwo Y \u2013 Which Should You Pick?<\/p>\n
Most people are gravitating towards Mega Mewtwo Y for this choice, as you\u2019ll ultimately be getting one of the most formidable fighters in the entire game, provided you can win that battle. Mega Mewtwo Y beats Mega Mewtwo X where it matters most, and the psychic capabilities it has are second to none.<\/p>\n
Mewtwo X isn\u2019t weak by any means, but judging from Pok\u00e9mon tips, polls, and picks online, Mega Mewtwo Y is the one to go for.<\/p>\n
