Field Park, located a 45-minute drive northwest of Bourne Scenic Park. Authorities have not verified whether the same bear was spotted in both incidents.

Seeing a bear this time of year is a common occurrence, said Dave Wattles, black bear biologist for MassWildlife in a previous interview with the Globe.

The only bear species that resides in Massachusetts is the black bear, according to Wattles. Bear sightings are usually more frequent further west in Massachusetts, he said.

People who come across a bear should keep a safe distance, he said. He advised against trying to scare the bear off because the animal might decide to stand its ground instead of running away.

The state Environmental Police receives between 700 and 900 bear-related calls each year, Wattles said.

Hannah Goeke can be reached at hannah.goeke@globe.com.

Bourne Police relocated a black bear Sunday that had been wandering around the Buzzards Bay area near Cape…

[51
79,201
post-760321","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-wildlife","tag-science","tag-wildlife
["GET
