Mick Jagger<\/a> has clarified what his \u201cmad mogul\u201d lyric on The Rolling Stones<\/a>\u2018 new album\u00a0 \u2018Foreign Tongues<\/a>\u2018 is really about. Find all the details below.<\/p>\n

The band\u2019s 25th album, released last week, sees Jagger examine the state of America today, with track \u2018Mr Charm\u2019 specifically calling out Elon Musk<\/a> by name.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I was oh-so-young, I used to want to go to Mars\/ And burn the rubber on the road, And drive around in fancy cars,\u201d Jagger sings. \u201cAnd who would take you into space? Who would you really trust? Is it Boeing, is it NASA, is it mad mogul Mr Musk?\u201d<\/p>\n

Jagger\u2019s referring to Musk as a \u201cmad mogul\u201d has been understood by some fans as a slight at the Tesla billionaire. However, the musician has now dispelled that rumour.<\/p>\n

Speaking to The New York Times<\/a>, Jagger complained of reviews that had interpreted the song that way, saying: \u201cThey hear one word, and they don\u2019t really listen to the line, \u2018Mick Jagger has a go at Elon Musk\u2019, you\u2019re not listening to the line. You\u2019re just listening to Musk. That\u2019s all you\u2019re hearing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jagger then said that people hear the song and assume he \u201cmust be having a go at him\u201d, before admitting \u201cI do call him mad\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cThe funny thing is, when I wrote it, I was thinking because of him they were able to get those astronauts back that were stuck because he provided the transportation because NASA couldn\u2019t provide the transportation.\u201d<\/p>\n

He then explained how the line of the song was about him wanting to go to Mars \u201cas a kid\u201d and \u201cwho would you trust to get you into space\u201d, clarifying, \u201cIt\u2019s really a sidewinding compliment, because he was the one that I remembered was able to do that when the others couldn\u2019t\u201d.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Jagger does understand that his choice of words wasn\u2019t the most complimentary, adding, \u201cMogul doesn\u2019t always go down well either\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The new album features collaborations with Paul McCartney<\/a>,\u00a0The Cure<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0Robert Smith<\/a>,\u00a0Steve Winwood\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0Red Hot Chili Peppers<\/a> drummer Chad Smith, as well as further posthumous appearances from Charlie Watts.<\/p>\n

The band have also launched an official podcast series<\/a>,\u00a0Speaking In Tongues, to accompany the album. The six-part series is narrated by\u00a0Norah Jones<\/a>\u00a0and features new interviews with Jagger,\u00a0Keith Richards<\/a>, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Jagger recently told\u00a0NME\u00a0that he is a fan of\u00a0Sam Fender<\/a>, hailing his album \u2018People Watching<\/a>\u2019 as \u201cexcellent\u201d.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cI\u2019ve had my Sam Fender moments lately, because I like a lot of his stuff. That \u2018People Watching\u2019 album was stunning. Yeah, I thought that album was excellent, earlier stuff I liked, you know, \u2018Seventeen Going Under<\/a>\u2019,\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0some good stuff on that album.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also told us\u00a0about the \u201cvery easy\u201d experience of working with Paul McCartney<\/a>.<\/p>\n
